11 October 2017, Business Leadership South Africa, the business body representing more than 70 of the country’s largest companies and multinationals, has appointed Ms Tebele Liteboho Makhetha (32) as its director for policy and legislation effective from November 1 this year.
Ms Makhetha will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations, policy development, engagement with key partners, and help shape BLSA’s input in the development of important legislation.
“Ms Makhetha is here to keep us in line and sharpen our input into policy and legislation,” commented BLSA CEO Mr Bonang Mohale. “In our recently unveiled Integrity Pledge our members undertake not to behave anti-competitively and to comply with all laws, as the representative body we have to lead by example.”
Ms Makhetha holds a Masters in Commercial Law and an LLB from Wits University. She also holds a certificate in prospecting and mining law.
She joins BLSA from Tabacks and Associates, whom she joined in July 2010 as an associate, and since July 2012, has been a director in their commercial law department. She cut her teeth in the legal profession as a candidate attorney at Werksmans Attorneys.
“I am truly honoured to be joining BLSA at this exciting time in its journey,” said Ms Makhetha. “I hope to make my contribution and to learn from my esteemed colleagues, some of whose careers as advocates of transformation I have followed with admiration. I am looking forward to this challenge.”
In August this year, BLSA launched its contract with South Africa through which it pledged to invest in the economy to create jobs, support small business, help develop black leadership talent and crush corruption in the public and private sectors.
